Kazu's Asian Bistro provides tasty meal
Last Modified: Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 5:06 a.m.
We called Kazu's Sushi & Asian Bistro for weeknight takeout last week. I had tried and enjoyed the bento boxes -- Japanese-style lunches -- at the restaurant at lunchtime, but had never been there for dinner.
2063 Siesta Drive, Sarasota.
Phone: 951-7778.
Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 4 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
,b>What we ate: Spring Rolls, Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl, Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura Dinner.
What it cost: $25.56.
My order-taker was fast and efficient on the phone and said our order would be ready in 15 minutes. It was packed up and waiting when my husband picked it up.
We tried the spring rolls ($3 for two), and they were a familiar version of the traditional Asian appetizer -- shredded vegetables and ground pork wrapped in a crispy fried wrapper.
The Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl ($7.50) pleased us both. It was a healthy mix of sauteed white meat chicken with vegetables over rice. The tangy teriyaki sauce added the right amount of punch to the dish.
The Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura Dinner ($13.50) was also quite good. The batter was light and crispy, as a tempura dish should be. The vegetables tasted quite fresh and were cooked to crisp-tender perfection.
Kazu's has a number of interesting salads on the menu that feature a sesame vinaigrette that sounds quite tasty. A number of noodle bowls and a lemongrass chicken dish also piqued our interest, but, alas, we are only two diners in a sea of choices.
My biggest regret about getting takeout from Kazu's? I didn't think it prudent to order one of their ice creams -- mango, green tea or banana tempura -- since it would have to be transported home. They sound delicious. A dine-in visit is probably in my future.
